Nigerian music star Reekado Banks has shed new light on his highly publicized fallout with fellow singer Wizkid, revealing that the Starboy boss recently expressed regret over the incident that drove a wedge between them in 2020.
Speaking during a candid chat on The Esther Show, Reekado recounted the events surrounding the controversial release of their collaborative single, Omo Olomo, which came at the height of the #EndSARS protests; a nationwide youth-led demonstration against police brutality in Nigeria.
At the time, the move sparked outrage when Wizkid publicly lashed out at Reekado on social media for announcing the track’s release amidst the emotional and politically charged atmosphere. Wizkid, who was one of the most vocal celebrity voices during the protests, called Reekado a “fool” and a “clout animal,” in a now-deleted tweet that shocked fans and sparked a flurry of online reactions.
However, in his latest interview, Reekado clarified that it was never his intention to release the song during the protests and that the decision was pushed by his management, despite his reservations.
“Recently he [Wizkid] came to visit my restaurant. We had a little talk and he was a little regretful about it. He was like he shouldn’t have gone that route. He mentioned his behaviour towards Don Jazzy as well,” Reekado said.
According to him, the reconciliation came during an unexpected but heartfelt visit by Wizkid, during which both artists addressed their lingering tension and found common ground in their shared experiences including the recent loss of their mothers.
“He was like we are three people in the game [music industry] who recently lost our moms. And he feels sorry about that time, so we are good now,” Reekado added.
The revelation has been met with praise from fans who have long hoped the two would resolve their differences. Many see their reconciliation as a sign of maturity and growth, especially in an industry often marred by ego clashes and unresolved feuds.
With fences now mended, listeners may even begin to anticipate new musical collaborations between the two hitmakers, this time, under far more harmonious circumstances.
