Boozy bandit: Raccoon breaks into liquor store and gets drunk. A raccoon broke into a Virginia ABC store in Ashland and got drunk from spilled alcohol. It passed out in the bathroom after knocking over shelves.
Hanover County Animal Protection and Shelter got the call about the unusual intruder.
Officer Martin arrived and found the raccoon asleep near the toilet. Photos on social media showed broken bottles and liquor all over the floor.

Officer Martin caught the raccoon safely and took it to the shelter. There, it slept off the effects before staff checked it for injuries.
The animal showed no harm, and workers released it back into the wild a few hours later.
Hanover Animal Protection called the raccoon a “masked bandit” in a fun post. They praised Officer Martin for handling the mess with care and a smile. “Just another day in the life at Hanover Animal Protection!” they said.
A spokesperson from Virginia ABC reported the raccoon damaged 14 bottles of spirits. The total cost came to about $250. No other harm occurred to the store, and it opened again after a quick cleanup.
