Lagos residents and workers are to observe a public holiday tomorrow, Friday, September 5, 2025. The federal government has officially declared the day a work-free day to commemorate Eid-ul-Mawlid, the birth of Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him).
The Minister of Interior, Mr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, announced the holiday on behalf of the government.
In a statement, he congratulated Nigerian Muslims and urged everyone to use the occasion to reflect on the Prophet’s virtues of peace, love, and tolerance.
He also called on all citizens to pray for the nation’s peace, unity, and development.
This declaration means government offices, schools, and many private businesses will be closed in Lagos and across the country.
Residents are advised to take note of the holiday and plan their activities accordingly.
