Afrobeats star Stanley Omah Didia, popularly known as Omah Lay, has stirred widespread conversation after declaring that prayers alone cannot fix Nigeria’s growing problems.
The singer, who is known for speaking candidly on social issues, took to his X handle on Thursday to express frustration over the worsening state of the nation. According to him, Nigeria will not improve until citizens begin to take concrete and collective action.
In his words:
“No Jesus, no Allah, no prayer is saving us. Nothing changes until we wake TF up.”
Omah Lay’s statement comes at a time when both Christian and Islamic clerics have intensified calls for prayers for the nation, following a wave of violent attacks and worsening economic hardship.
His comments immediately ignited heated debates online, with many Nigerians split between those who agree that prayer must be backed by action, and others who insist that spiritual intervention remains crucial.
Over the past week, several celebrities have voiced their frustration with the state of the country.
Music executive Don Jazzy, singer Davido, activist Falz, comedian Mr Macaroni and others have demanded urgent government action following the recent terrorist attack on a church in Kwara State and the abduction of schoolgirls in Kebbi State.
Singer Yemi Alade also weighed in on Wednesday, rejecting calls for foreign military intervention in Nigeria’s insecurity crisis. She argued that “African problems need African solutions, not new problems.”
As conversations deepen across social media, Omah Lay’s bold stance has added more fuel to the national debate on what Nigeria truly needs, prayer, action, or both.
