The drama surrounding Nnamdi Kanu’s conviction has taken a new turn after controversial singer Portable alleged that the IPOB leader was offered ₦50 billion but refused to accept it.
Kanu was recently sentenced to life imprisonment by a Federal High Court in Abuja after being found guilty on multiple terrorism-related charges. The court also issued additional sentences of 20 years and 5 years, to run concurrently. The IPOB leader, arrested in 2021, has remained in detention throughout his trial.
In a viral video now circulating online, Portable claimed that both Nnamdi Kanu and Yoruba nation agitator Sunday Igboho were offered ₦50bn, but while Igboho allegedly took the deal, Kanu reportedly rejected it.
Meanwhile, in a significant development, Nnamdi Kanu has been transferred from the DSS facility in Abuja to a correctional centre in Sokoto State. His lawyer, Aloy Ejimakor, confirmed the move on social media.
This transfer comes amid a wave of arrests linked to protests demanding Kanu’s release. Ejimakor himself and Kanu’s brother Emmanuel were detained during a protest led by activist Omoleye Sowore, who was also arrested and later released only to be rearrested for referring to the Inspector General of Police as a “goat.”
The revelations and allegations continue to fuel debate nationwide, as tensions rise following the court judgment.
