Police in Lagos have arrested a man who called himself the “Obi of Lagos” and three other people, preventing a planned public event.
The group was arrested on Wednesday, September 10, 2025, for trying to mislead the public with an unlawful installation ceremony.
The main suspect, Chibuike Azubike, 65, from Imo State, was arrested along with Chief Chibuzor Ani, 57; Chief Martins Nwaodika, 65; and Ikechukwu Franklin Nnadi, 41. All four are currently being held at the Lagos State Police Command Headquarters in Ikeja.

Police intelligence revealed that the group planned to show off a model of a supposed ₦1.5 billion “Palace of Obi of Lagos State” on Saturday, September 13, 2025, at Apple Hall in Amuwo Odofin.
In response, police sealed the venue and sent officers to ensure the event did not happen and to keep the peace.
The Commissioner of Police for Lagos State, CP Olohundare Jimoh, has warned the public to be careful of impostors who try to use cultural and traditional titles for their own benefit.
He stated that these actions are against state laws and can cause public disorder. He added that the police will continue to enforce the law against anyone who acts against public order and the integrity of the state.
The suspects will be charged in court after the investigation is complete.
