Emergency responders are on the scene of a plane crash at DuPage Airport that occurred Wednesday afternoon.
West Chicago police and fire crews arrived at the airport, located at 2700 International Drive, shortly after the incident was reported.
Authorities have secured the area as they begin their investigation.
FAA Investigating After Twin-Engine Plane Crashes at DuPage Airport
Federal authorities are investigating after a small plane crashed shortly after takeoff at DuPage Airport on Wednesday afternoon.
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) confirmed that a Piper PA-30, a twin-engine aircraft, crashed around 1:50 p.m. local time.
The incident occurred moments after the plane departed from the airport, located at 2700 International Drive.
West Chicago police and fire crews arrived quickly to secure the airfield. In an official statement, the West Chicago Police Department said:
“WC Police Officers are currently at the DuPage Airport assisting the WC Fire Protection District and airport personnel on what appears to be an aircraft crash. No further details are available at this time but we will post additional information when it becomes available.”
According to the FAA, two people were onboard the aircraft at the time of the crash.
Emergency responders have not yet released information regarding their identities or their current medical conditions.
The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) has been notified and will lead the investigation into what caused the Piper PA-30 to go down.
Investigators are expected to examine the wreckage and flight data over the coming days.
