A 23-year-old man is behind bars after allegedly using a machete to break into his neighbor’s home.
Sheriff’s Police responded to a call in the 4000 block of Bonhill Drive in unincorporated Palatine Township just after midnight on Jan. 24.
Officers arrived to find Kevin Patron-Ladino holding a machete and took him into custody.
Detectives say the incident began when Patron-Ladino knocked on his neighbor’s door to ask if they wanted to hang out.
The four people inside the apartment declined the invitation and suggested meeting up at another time.
Investigators believe Patron-Ladino returned shortly after with a machete and began stabbing the door.
He successfully forced his way inside the residence while armed with the blade.
The victims managed to escape the apartment and no injuries were reported.
On Jan. 25, the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office approved home invasion charges against Patron-Ladino.
He also faces multiple misdemeanor counts of assault for the late-night confrontation.
Patron-Ladino appeared at the Rolling Meadows Courthouse on Jan. 27 and was ordered remanded to the Cook County Jail.
The public is reminded that all defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
