Recently evicted Big Brother Naija housemate, Otega, has shed light on his experience in the house and why winning the grand prize was never his priority.
Speaking during his media rounds on Wednesday evening with Arise News, the reality TV star revealed that his focus was on the platform rather than the ₦80 million prize money.
“BBNaija was not a competition for me. We have become too money-centric in our generation. Money wasn’t a top priority for me. What I needed was the platform Multichoice provided. Even if I had spent just one week in the house, I would have come out feeling fulfilled,” Otega told Arise News presenter.
His statement echoes comments he made while still in the house, where he boldly declared, “I don’t care about the prize money, 80 million is not a lot of money to me.”
Otega’s position has sparked conversations among fans and viewers, with many commending him for prioritizing purpose and exposure over financial reward, while others have criticized his remarks as downplaying the struggles of ordinary Nigerians who see the prize as life-changing.
For Otega, however, the show has always been about visibility and opportunity. According to him, Big Brother Naija offers contestants an unrivaled chance to showcase their personalities and talents to millions of viewers across Africa and beyond. He believes that even a short stint on the show can open doors that money alone cannot buy.
The former housemate, who already has a growing fanbase, hinted that he intends to leverage the exposure to pursue new ventures in the entertainment and lifestyle industry. He expressed gratitude to Multichoice for curating a platform that goes beyond the prize money and helps contestants build a brand for themselves.
It can be recalled that Otega’s BBNaija journey ended on Sunday during the live eviction show alongside fellow housemate Kayikunmi, making them the 3rd and 4th housemates to be evicted from the show, respectively.
