Nigerian singer and songwriter Reekado Banks has issued a cautionary message to upcoming artists, raising the alarm about a powerful yet unnamed music executive he claims is exploiting young talents in the industry.
In a recent interview that has since gone viral, the Easy (Jeje) crooner revealed troubling experiences and patterns tied to the said figure. Though he stopped short of disclosing the executive’s identity, Reekado described him as a negative force within the Nigerian music space.
“There is one big man in the music industry who is demonic and taking advantage of young talents. I have worked with him before. Other young artists have also worked with him. I would not want to mudsling, you know, put his name through the mud, although the person knows himself.”
The former Mavin Records star explained that he decided to speak out not for drama, but to protect rising stars who might unknowingly fall into the same trap.
“But I would like to educate people about the man, because according to everything that I have come to find out, everybody that he has worked with always encounters certain setbacks or finds themselves in a mess.”
Reekado Banks’ remarks have ignited a wave of reactions on social media, with fans, industry insiders, and fellow artists debating the identity of the alleged executive. While many applauded his courage, others urged him to take it a step further by naming the individual to prevent more damage within the ecosystem.
Known for his smooth vocals and hits like Oluwa Ni and Katapot, Reekado has kept a relatively low profile in recent years. However, his decision to speak out on this issue reflects his growing interest in using his platform to spotlight deeper problems plaguing the music business.
As conversations around artist welfare, exploitation, and fair representation continue to rise in the Nigerian and global music industry, Reekado Banks’ revelation adds to the growing call for more accountability and transparency behind the scenes.
