Nigerian Afrobeats sensation, Stanley Omah Didia, popularly known as Omah Lay, has once again bared his soul to fans, opening up about his ongoing battle with depression. In a new social media post that has sparked both concern and empathy, the ‘Soso’ hitmaker suggested that a large sum of money could offer him temporary relief from his emotional struggles.
Taking to his X handle on Tuesday, Omah Lay wrote: “10M in pounds or dollars right now will heal me for at least a month.”
The raw confession struck a chord with fans, many of whom are familiar with the singer’s openness about his mental health battles. Omah Lay has been candid about his experience with chronic depression, admitting in past interviews and social posts that it nearly claimed his life.
His 2022 debut album, Boy Alone, gave fans a haunting glimpse into his state of mind, with tracks that explored themes of loneliness, sadness, and internal battles. Shortly after its release on July 15, Omah Lay made headlines when he disclosed that his depression deepened following an intimate relationship with his therapist.
He tweeted on July 18, 2022:
“My depression became worse after I knacked my therapist.”
Now, the Port Harcourt-born singer is gearing up for his sophomore album, Clarity of Mind, which he has hinted will chronicle his journey toward healing. The project is expected to offer a deeper, more reflective dive into his struggles, victories, and everything in between.
While the recent money-related post has drawn a mixed bag of reactions, some sympathetic, others critical, it underscores the complicated reality many young stars face behind the glitz of fame.
Omah Lay’s honesty continues to resonate with fans, especially in a generation increasingly vocal about mental health. His journey, though riddled with pain, is also shaping into a powerful narrative of self-awareness and healing through music.
