Remo Stars coach Daniel Ogunmodede has expressed his delight at leading Remo Stars to their first-ever Nigeria Premier Football League title on Sunday.
The Sky Blue Stars defeated Niger Tornadoes 1-0 to emerge champions in Ikenne.
The Super Eagles assistant coach also revealed that the team deserved to win the league after finishing as runners-up in the last two seasons.
Ogunmodede said: “It’s a very important moment for me, I arrived this club 2015. I have spent 10 years at the club now. Six years as an assistant coach as well as the director of football and the last four years as the head coach,” he told the club’s media.
“We were second for two consecutive years, and we are champions now.I’m so elated now. Most importantly to win the title on the birthday of our influencer, president of the club (Kunle Soname), is a big motivation for us.
”We are thrilled to make the day special for him. We are happy, the players, everyone associated with the club is excited at the moment.
“It’s good to see his investment finally yield positive results and his patience with me on the technical aspect.”
Remo Stars have been consistent since the start of the 2024-25 season with impressive performances which has seen them open up a 10 points lead over second-placed Rivers United with three games to go.
Ogunmodede has set his sights on winning more silverware next season.
He said: “We always want to be one step ahead of our rivals, we can’t afford to rest for now . As a club we have a solid structure in place and we want to win more,” he added.
Remo Stars made history as the first privately owned club to win the title since Udoji United achieved the feat in 1996.
It is also the first time a South West club has claimed the title since the Julius Berger won it two decades ago.
Remo Stars will be back in action against El-Kanemi Warriors next Wednesday.
