Nollywood actor Tom Njemanze is fighting one of the toughest battles of his life; a painful struggle with prostate cancer. The respected veteran, known for his captivating roles in Nollywood classics like Issakaba, Osuofia in London, and Pounds and Dollars, has made a heartfelt appeal to Nigerians for financial assistance as he undergoes treatment.
In a video that has since gone viral, Njemanze was seen on a hospital bed, visibly in distress but full of hope. The clip was shared on Instagram by filmmaker Stanley Ontop, who also revealed the seriousness of the actor’s condition.
He wrote, “Hello guys, one of our Nollywood legends is sick and needs urgent surgery. Sir Tom Njamanze has been diagnosed with prostate cancer, and he needs your support to undergo surgery. Nothing is too small, fams. Help our legend live again.”
The emotional plea has sparked concern and support from fans and colleagues in the entertainment industry, many of whom grew up watching Njemanze’s powerful performances in films such as Tokunboh, Atosa, Igbotic Love, and Brain Box. His name is etched in the history of Nollywood as a pillar of storytelling and cultural expression.
This distressing news comes just months after another veteran actor, John Amaefule, also called for public support while battling a partial stroke and cancer highlighting the ongoing health and welfare challenges facing aging actors in the Nigerian movie industry.
Njemanze’s fans and well-wishers are now rallying around him, hoping that their collective support will help save a man who has given so much to the Nigerian screen.
