The Nigerian film industry has been thrown into mourning following the death of veteran Nollywood actor, Fabian Adibe. The seasoned thespian passed away this morning at the age of 82, according to reports shared by popular Instagram platform, Remedy Blog.
As of the time of this report, there are no official details about the circumstances that led to his death.
Adibe, whose career spanned several decades, was a familiar face in classic Nollywood movies, often portraying fatherly or elder statesman roles that endeared him to audiences across Nigeria and beyond. He was widely respected for his depth, calm delivery, and ability to bring authenticity to his characters.
Back in 2016, the actor made headlines after it was rumoured that he had developed a visual impairment. In an interview with the Nigerian Tribune that same year, Adibe revealed that he needed N13 million for eye surgery.
“The actor said his visual impairment affected his career for over 12 years,” the report noted, underscoring the personal and professional challenges he faced during his later years.
Despite the health struggles, Adibe’s legacy in Nollywood remained intact. His contributions to the industry are remembered not only through the countless films he featured in but also through the inspiration he gave to upcoming actors who looked up to him as a mentor and pioneer.
Tributes are already pouring in from fans, colleagues, and admirers who remember him as one of the foundational figures of Nollywood’s golden era.
