Ruben Amorim has revealed that he lacks luxury of time to turn things around as the manager of Manchester United after another disappointing defeat.
The Red Devils suffered a 1-0 defeat to Nottingham Forest at the City Ground on Tuesday night to further dampen their chances of moving up on the log.
Anthony Elanga opened the scoring for the visitors in the fifth minute as Manchester United struggled to find their way back to suffer their 13th defeat of the season.
The Portuguese manager has endured a turbulent time at Old Trafford since taking over in November.
He has admitted that time is running out for him to things around at the club as they continue to falter.
Amorim said: “In Manchester United, you don’t have the time. I will not have the time. We have to get it right fast.
“Here, the pressure is too big sometimes. We start the game suffering a goal and put Nottingham in the place they want to be — defending with lots of men — then they have really fast players to make transitions.
“Even with that, we controlled the game quite well, especially in the second half. We push forward but again, in the final third, we were not good enough.
“We suffered that first goal, and it helped the opponent to play the game they wanted. We have quality in the last third, but we tried everything to score a goal and we didn’t score, and we lost three points.
“We were so near the [Forest] box, but we lacked quality in the final third.
The former Sporting Lisbon manager is demanding improvement from his players ahead of their clash with Man City.
He said: “We have to improve, and we are pushing the opponent more to their half. Now we have to improve in the final third. They have a lot of men [behind the ball] and it was hard to make a connection to get inside the box.
“It is always frustrating when you don’t win. Especially when you look at the game, we deserve more than losing the game.
Amorim berated Alejandro Garnacho’s performance after recording six shots in the game without troubling Nottingham Forest’s goalkeeper.
He said: “He is making everything. He’s trying. Sometimes you have one day that you are doing the right things, but in the final third, you are not that good, that can happen.
“The most important thing for me is that when he needs to run back, he is running back. Of course we want a player that has one against one. Sometimes he is trying too much.
“I think he wants to help the team to do his best, sometimes he doesn’t make the best choice, but you cannot point to any player today.”
Amorim has overseen 19 Premier League matches, winning a paltry six, drawing four, and suffering nine defeats.
Nunu Espirito-Santo’s side impressive form continues with another stunning performance to consolidate their grip on the third position, going eight points clear of fourth-placed Chelsea.
It was their first double over Manchester United for the first time since the 1991-92 season.
Nottingham Forest have earned 57 points in the Premier League this season, their second-highest ever total from their opening 30 games of a top-flight campaign.
Amorim will be hoping for an instant response from his players against Man City at Old Trafford on Sunday, drawing confidence from their 2-1 won at the Etihad in December.
