Nollywood actress Nkechi Blessing Sunday has gotten candid about her love life, setting the record straight on her past relationships and what she expects from future partners.
In a recent Instagram Live session, the outspoken actress admitted that contrary to public assumptions, she has never dated a man wealthier than herself. According to her, every relationship she has been in involved “dating down.”
Reflecting on her past, Nkechi explained that while her partners gave her love, care, and attention, they fell short when it came to providing the stability and support she truly desired. She stressed that her relationships were never about financial gain, as she has always been independent and self-sufficient.
“I think all my life… it’s always been about being in one relationship, saga or the other. Then again, I said to myself, this is not what I want to be known for. I don’t want to be that girl who everyone thinks if she doesn’t have a man in her life, she cannot function. That’s not who I am… The whole relationship that I’ve ever been online was me dating down. Yes. I’ve never dated someone who has more money than I am. And that’s a fact,” she said.
The actress also admitted she is a “lover girl”, born on Valentine’s Day, who enjoys being in love and “babied.” Despite taking a one-year break from relationships to heal and focus on her career, she confessed she still misses companionship.
However, Nkechi was clear that the next man in her life must “come correct.” She insisted that she is no longer interested in babysitting men, especially in an era where, in her words, “most of them are princesses.”
“I have dated down three times. I am not about to date down anymore. You must meet my standards because the fact remains, I have everything going on for myself already. So anybody that is coming into my life right now must be someone who has way more than I do,” she warned.
Nkechi’s bold declaration has since sparked conversations among fans about gender roles, relationship standards, and the financial dynamics of love.
