A Nigerian lady has gone viral after revealing that she can no longer access the 10 bitcoins she purchased in 2016; an investment now valued at approximately ₦1.36 billion.
Identified on Facebook as Odette Okwuke, she explained that her ex-boyfriend helped her buy the Bitcoin from a man on Bonny Island during visits to him while he worked with Shell. Odette admitted she knew nothing about cryptocurrency at the time and still doesn’t understand it today.
The main challenge, she revealed, is that she no longer remembers the security question and answer for her Blockchain wallet, nor the important 12-word recovery phrase required to regain access.
In her words:
“I once bought 10BTC from a guy in Bonny Island early 2016, when I used to visit my then bf who works with shell.
It was actually my guy that helped me buy them. I knew nothing about crypto.
Till today, I still know nothing about crypto I do not understand it for the life of me.
My problem is that I don’t remember my security login question and answer to my blockchain wallet.
Worse still, there’s meant to be a 12word something something that I don’t remember what I had put.
I moved on since 2020 after I paid different crypto gurus to help me unlock it.”
Despite seeking help from various crypto experts, Odette says all attempts to recover the wallet have failed, forcing her to give up hope years ago.
Her story has sparked huge reactions online, with many expressing shock at the staggering value the forgotten Bitcoin has now reached.
