American rapper Nicki Minaj has drawn global attention to the plight of Christians in Nigeria, calling for stronger international action to protect religious minorities facing violent persecution.

Minaj, who visited the United Nations headquarters on Tuesday, said she was “deeply concerned” about reports of Nigerian Christians being attacked, displaced, and killed. She met with U.S. Ambassador to the UN, Mike Waltz, for what she described as an in-depth conversation on efforts, particularly those supported by the Trump administration to defend religious freedom across the world.

She thanked former U.S. President Donald Trump for prioritising the issue and backing initiatives aimed at safeguarding vulnerable Nigerian Christian communities from extremist violence.

Drawing from her global experiences, Minaj noted that faith plays a crucial role in shaping cultures, but warned that religion “is under attack in far too many regions.”

“In Nigeria, Christians are being targeted, driven from their homes, and killed,” she said. “Churches burned, families torn apart, entire communities living in fear simply because of how they pray.”

Nicki Minaj stressed that defending freedom of worship is not about taking sides but about protecting humanity. She added that attacks on churches, mosques, or any place of worship should be a wake-up call for the international community to act.
