A private business jet owned by NASCAR star and local hero Greg Biffle crashed while landing at the Statesville Regional Airport on Thursday morning.
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) confirmed that the aircraft, a Cessna C550 business jet, was involved in the accident during its arrival.
Emergency crews responded to the scene immediately after the plane went down.
Public records link the plane’s tail number, N257BW, to GB Aviation Leasing, which shares a registered address with Biffle.
While the FAA has confirmed the crash occurred during the landing phase, they have not yet released the cause of the accident or the number of people on board.
Greg Biffle is a well-known figure in the racing world, but he recently gained national praise for his humanitarian efforts.
Following the devastation of Hurricane Helene, Biffle used his personal helicopter to fly hundreds of private rescue missions into Western North Carolina, delivering supplies to stranded families.
The FAA and the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) will investigate the incident to determine what led to the crash.
