The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) dismissed speculation surrounding the unscheduled landing of its C-130 Hercules transport aircraft in Bobo-Dioulasso, Burkina Faso, on December 8, 2025. The NAF stressed that the landing was a routine precautionary measure taken in full compliance with international aviation safety protocols.
According to a statement issued by Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame, Director of Public Relations and Information, the aircraft was en route from Lagos to Portugal for scheduled heavy maintenance when the crew detected a technical issue shortly after takeoff.
Following standard operating procedures, the pilots swiftly diverted the plane to the nearest suitable airfield, Bobo-Dioulasso, where they executed a safe landing.
The NAF confirmed that all crew members are in good health and received courteous assistance from Burkinabè authorities during the stopover.
“The Nigerian Air Force wishes to reassure the public that the diversion was purely precautionary and in strict adherence to global safety standards,” Air Commodore Ejodame stated. He added that plans are already underway to resolve the minor technical concern and continue the flight to Portugal as originally scheduled.
The Air Force expressed gratitude to the government and people of Burkina Faso for their cooperation and reiterated its unwavering commitment to the highest levels of operational professionalism and adherence to both national and international aviation regulations.
