The controversial social media influencer, VeryDarkMan (VDM), remains in the custody of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), days after his arrest, with no clear explanation provided for his detention, sparking public outrage and calls for transparency.
Prominent activist and lawyer, Deji Adeyanju, who has taken up VDM’s legal representation, expressed confusion and frustration over the continued detention. In a statement made after visiting the EFCC facility, Adeyanju revealed that there is still no formal petition against the outspoken influencer.
“Got into the country this evening and went straight to VDM at EFCC. Just left him. We still cannot understand why he was arrested. EFCC said there is no petition against him after our repeated demand,” Adeyanju stated.
The statement has further intensified public interest in the case, as fans and civil rights advocates demand to know why the influencer is being held without charge. VDM, known for his no-holds-barred commentaries on social issues, corruption, and celebrity lifestyles, has made as many enemies as he has loyal fans, with some suggesting that his arrest may be politically motivated or tied to his outspoken nature.
Social media platforms have since gone agog with hashtags like #FreeVDM and #JusticeForVDM, with many calling on the EFCC to either charge him formally or release him immediately.
As of the time of filing this report, EFCC has not released an official statement explaining the rationale behind VDM’s arrest or ongoing detention, raising more questions than answers.
Observers are now watching closely to see if any charges will be filed or if this is yet another example of arbitrary detention, as critics of the anti-graft agency have often alleged.
Will VDM walk free soon, or is this the beginning of a prolonged legal tussle?
Stay tuned for updates.
