For years, fans of Afrobeats have fantasized about a full-fledged bromance or at least a solid collaboration between Nigeria’s two music powerhouses, Wizkid and Davido. But according to someone deep in the trenches, the road to peace hasn’t been smooth.
DJ Tunez, Wizkid’s official disc jockey and longtime collaborator, has shared what he calls the biggest challenge of his career—and it has nothing to do with turntables or tour logistics.
Speaking candidly during a recent livestream on X, DJ Tunez didn’t mince words.
“My biggest challenge? Making Wizkid and Davido to love each other, that’s my biggest challenge,” he revealed to fans watching online.
The statement, raw and revealing, sheds light on the long-standing tension between two of Afrobeats’ biggest exports, an industry rivalry that has kept fans divided and delayed what could be a historic musical alliance.
While both artists have at times hinted at mutual respect, their history has been riddled with competitive jabs, indirect shots, and social media spats. In October 2024, things took a turn for the worse when Wizkid and Davido reignited their feud, exchanging words online in a series of heated posts that made headlines across the entertainment world.
Despite the back-and-forth, key figures in the industry have continuously called for unity. Artistes like Iyanya and Davido’s manager, Asa Asika, have both publicly advocated for the pair to put their differences aside and come together for the culture.
Their reasoning is clear: a Wizkid-Davido alliance would not only excite fans but could propel Afrobeats to even greater global recognition especially as the genre continues to dominate international charts and stages.
DJ Tunez’s revelation adds a personal layer to the conversation. As someone in Wizkid’s inner circle, his struggle to build a bridge between the two stars highlights how deep and unresolved the tension might be.
Still, his hope, like that of millions of fans, remains alive.
Will 2025 be the year Wizkid and Davido finally bury the hatchet and give Afrobeats the joint moment it deserves? Only time will tell.
