The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, has approved the promotion of Olumuyiwa Adejobi to Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) and his posting as DCP in charge of the Department of Operations, Delta State Command.
This deployment highlights the confidence of the Force leadership in Adejobi’s experience, professionalism, and ability to strengthen operational strategies in Delta.
The Nigeria Police Force announced on September 3, 2025, that Adejobi, previously the national Force Public Relations Officer, has been commended for his exceptional service.
The IGP praised his professionalism, commitment, and significant contributions to improving the image and communication strategies of the Nigeria Police Force.
Egbetokun expressed confidence that Adejobi will bring the same dedication to his new role in Delta. Meanwhile, arrangements are underway to name a new Force Public Relations Officer, with Lagos State Police spokesperson Benjamin Hundeyin appointed as Adejobi’s successor.
The announcement clears up false claims that Adejobi was removed from his position.
Online confusion arose when Sahara Reporters posted a story suggesting Adejobi was sacked. The report, shared widely, used misleading language about his transfer to Delta. Many celebrated the post, mistakenly believing it signaled his demotion.
AJE, a media aide to the Lagos State Governor with the X handle @Riddwane, called out the error, posting: “Someone got promoted, Sowore says he’s removed. And dumbos are celebrating under here. LMAO.”
Omoyele Sowore, who runs Sahara Reporters, was linked to the misleading report. The Coalition for Good Governance also dismissed the removal claims, tying them to protests led by Sowore.
