Nearly a year after the tragic death of Nigerian singer Ilerioluwa Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad, his father, Joseph Aloba, has once again stirred public interest with new revelations surrounding the independent autopsy carried out on his late son.
In a recent TikTok live session, Mr. Aloba disclosed that he paid a substantial amount N16 million to a pathologist for the second autopsy, as part of his quest to uncover the truth behind the singer’s mysterious death.
“With all sincerity, I paid the first tranche of N16 million to the pathologist. After that, I spent close to N2 million. So, if the pathologist can come out to deny my claim, then don’t believe me again,” he stated during the live stream. He added, “Some people were saying it was N12 million that I paid, but I’m still telling you now that I paid N16 million.”
Mr. Aloba’s statements come a month after the independent autopsy and forensic medical review conducted by Dr. Uwom Eze failed to determine the cause of Mohbad’s death. The lack of a definitive conclusion left fans and the general public with more questions than answers, as conspiracy theories and calls for justice continue to swirl around the late singer’s passing.
In June 2024, a Coroner Court magistrate, T.A. Shotobi, sitting in Ikorodu, Lagos State, granted Mr. Aloba permission to hire a licensed pathologist for an independent review, after months of dissatisfaction with the official investigation.
Since the death of Mohbad in September 2023, there has been widespread public outcry and demand for transparency. The late singer, who was just 27, had amassed a huge following, and his passing has left an emotional gap in the Nigerian music scene.
As the case continues to unfold, Mohbad’s father remains at the center of efforts to seek clarity and accountability, even as the results from the costly independent autopsy have yet to yield concrete answers.
