Nigerian social media activist Vincent Otse Martins, popularly known as VeryDarkMan, has reignited the call for justice in the controversial death of late singer Mohbad by releasing a bombshell voice recording allegedly involving Nigerian music promoter Sam Larry and rapper Zlatan Ibile.
In the now-viral audio clip, which appears to capture a conversation in Yoruba, Zlatan is allegedly heard speaking with Sam Larry, expressing hesitation about getting involved in the controversy surrounding Mohbad’s death. According to the recording, Zlatan voiced concerns about the backlash and drama that typically follow any social media commentary on sensitive matters.
VeryDarkMan, who uploaded the recording on his Instagram page, didn’t hold back. He issued a stern 48-hour ultimatum to Zlatan, demanding that the rapper publicly address the contents of the audio and explain his silence during the early outcry for justice after Mohbad’s passing.
“I am going to be playing a voice recording between Zlatan and Sam Larry, during the time Mohbad died. Now I expect in 48 hours Zlatan will come out to explain what he knows and why he did not speak out when we were seeking justice for Mohbad,” he said.
Anticipating backlash for reviving the case, VeryDarkMan responded to his critics with fiery words. He insisted that the pursuit of justice for the late singer is far from over, especially as Mohbad has still not been buried months after his death, a detail he described as spiritually unsettling.
“Secondly, I see a lot of comments saying, ‘VDM why did you bring this case back?’ It shows a lot of you are ingrates. I deliberately brought this case back because I see a lot of you have moved on. That is why our government cannot take us seriously because we are so quick to move on,” he said.
“I really want to get justice for the boy. He has not been buried and his spirit is moving around, while some people knew the truth, they distracted everybody and used bullying to cover it up. And you, Zlatan, you kept quiet.”
In an emotionally charged tone, VeryDarkMan continued, saying: “I don start that case again. Anybody wey no like am, make e enter bush. You are not a real person if you ask me why I brought back the case again. So you want to make the case go down and you say you wanted justice for the boy. You all are fake, a lot of you are fake.”
The video and his comments have sparked fierce debate online. While some netizens sympathized with Zlatan’s choice to remain silent during the chaos, others echoed VeryDarkMan’s sentiments, urging the rapper to speak up and clarify his role or lack thereof in the unfolding saga.
Mohbad, whose real name was Ilerioluwa Aloba, died under controversial circumstances in September 2023, sparking public outrage and calls for a thorough investigation. With new angles and accusations emerging, this case appears far from closed.
