Bomb technicians responded to Chicago’s Midway International Airport on Monday after a suspicious device marked with an anti-Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) message was reported.
The device, described as a package with red and orange writing, was found about 300 yards from the airport’s main terminal near 60th Street and Kilpatrick Avenue. Neighbors first noticed the writing, which reportedly read, “FOR ICE FROM FC,” and alerted the police.
The Chicago police bomb unit was dispatched to the scene. Officers secured the area and alerted residents before addressing the package.
The Chicago police’s bomb unit rendered the suspicious package safe just after 8:40 a.m. Monday. Authorities did not release immediate details on what the “FC” initials or the full message could mean, but the anti-ICE reference is noted by law enforcement.
The FBI and the Department of Homeland Security are now involved in the investigation to determine the origin of the package and the meaning of the cryptic message.
