Afrobeats superstar, Davido, has opened up about how American R&B sensation, Chris Brown, played a pivotal role in transforming his career trajectory. The ‘Blow My Mind’ crooner made the revelation during a recent appearance on the Bagfuel Brigade podcast, where he recounted the moment that sparked a life-changing friendship between the two global stars.
According to Davido, their first interaction happened unexpectedly in 2018 through a mutual friend of Chris Brown, who happened to be Nigerian. The artist recalled being on a Facetime call with the friend when he heard one of his songs playing in the background.
“I asked where he was and he said he was at Chris Brown’s house,” Davido said. “I was like, ‘What? Y’all playing my music?’ And then he turned the camera and showed Chris dancing to my song. It blew my mind.”
The surprise didn’t end there. Davido’s friend handed the phone over to Chris Brown, marking the beginning of what would become a strong personal and professional relationship.
“That was the first time we had a conversation,” Davido explained. “A few months later, I traveled to America and we finally linked up. From the moment we met, we just naturally became friends. It wasn’t forced. The energy was pure.”
Since then, the duo has collaborated on hit tracks like ‘Blow My Mind’ and ‘Lower Body,’ showcasing a seamless blend of Afrobeats and R&B that has resonated with fans worldwide. Their bond goes beyond music, with both artists frequently supporting each other’s projects and maintaining a brotherly relationship.
Davido’s story is a testament to how international collaborations and genuine friendships can shape an artist’s path. As Afrobeats continues to dominate the global music scene, moments like this highlight the genre’s expanding influence and the cultural bridges it continues to build.
