Kylian Mbappe scored a brace for Real Madrid in a 3-2 win over Celta Vigo on Sunday to become first player to record 40 goal contributions in his debut season for Real Madrid since Cristiano Ronaldo in 2009.
Arda Guler opened the scoring for Real Madrid with a curling effort in the 33rd minute to set the tone for the hosts.
Mbappe scored the second of the match with a low effort to make it 2-0. He added the third field in the second half with a top class finish from Jude Bellingham’s pass
Javier Rodriguez, and Williot Swedberg scored two late goals to make the scoreline respectable for Celta Vigo.
Mbappe has enjoyed a prolific first season at the Santiago Bernabeu, scoring 24 goals in the La Liga to sit behind Robert Lewandoski in the top scorer’s race, the Polish forward has scored the 25 goals.
He is now the second player to score 35+ goals in his debut season for Real Madrid after Ivan Zamorano in 1993.
The former PSG forward has now scored 24 goals in the Spanish La Liga, seven in the Champions League, two in the Copa del Rey, and one apiece in the Super Copa, and in the UEFA Super Cup respectively.
Real Madrid are now four points behind table-toppers Barcelona ahead of the Clasico clash on Sunday.
