A 54-year-old man is recovering after a late-night shooting on the city’s Southwest Side that was initially reported as a stabbing.
The incident occurred on Monday around 10:00 p.m. in the Little Village neighborhood.
Chicago Police officers were dispatched to the 2800 block of South Avers following reports that someone had been stabbed.
When officers arrived, they found Chicago Fire Department crews already treating the victim.
He was rushed to Mount Sinai Hospital for emergency care.
Upon arrival at the hospital, medical staff discovered the man had not been stabbed.
Instead, he suffered two gunshot wounds: one to the back and a graze wound to the head near his ear.
The victim is currently listed in fair condition.
As of Tuesday morning, no suspects are in custody.
The circumstances leading up to the gunfire remain unknown.
Area Four detectives are currently investigating the scene.
