A 33-year-old man faces felony charges after allegedly attempting to steal over $1,200 in merchandise from the iconic Macy’s department store on State Street.
The incident occurred around 5:30 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 4.
According to the Cook County Sheriff’s Office, security footage captured a man loading up on jewelry, various gift sets, a comforter, and even a can of beer from a store cooler.
When the man, later identified as Jeffery Lowery of Chicago, tried to walk out without paying, store loss prevention teams attempted to stop him.
Lowery reportedly ignored their commands and refused to cooperate.
Members of the Sheriff’s Community Safety Team, who were already in the area, intervened.
Officers had to take Lowery to the ground after he continued to resist arrest.

The Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office approved the following charges against Lowery:
-
Retail Theft: One count (Class 3 Felony)
-

Lowery appeared at the George N. Leighton Criminal Courthouse on Jan. 5 and was ordered released from custody pending his next court date.
