A Fox Lake man now faces first-degree murder charges following a grisly discovery outside a suburban hotel.
Police identified the suspect as 54-year-old Arturo F. Taylor.
Investigators say Taylor was sharing a hotel room with 50-year-old Colleen Bagley.

Bagley, also of Fox Lake, was found dead early Wednesday morning.
Her body was discovered just after 4:15 a.m. near a refuse dumpster.

The dumpster was located outside an extended-stay hotel near Landmeier and Higgins Road.
An autopsy performed by the medical examiner confirmed the cause of death.

Bagley died from multiple “sharp-force” injuries.
Police believe a dispute broke out between the pair inside their shared room.

During the argument, Taylor allegedly stabbed Bagley multiple times.
He then allegedly moved her body to the area near the dumpster.
Witnesses at the scene described a haunting morning discovery.

Eva Wypych, a guest at the hotel, saw the body during her early morning walk.
“I just freaked and I couldn’t believe it,” Wypych told reporters.
She recalled seeing a body covered with a blanket as police arrived.

The Major Case Assistance Team (MCAT) joined Elk Grove Village police to process the scene.
Investigators were seen searching through trash bins and collecting multiple bags of evidence.
Authorities initially labeled the death “suspicious” before officially ruling it a homicide on Friday.
Despite the violent nature of the crime, police assured neighbors they were safe.
Officials stated the killing was an isolated incident with no ongoing threat to the public.
Taylor appeared in court on Saturday for a detention hearing.
Recent History
Elk Grove Village is typically known as a quiet, industrial, and residential hub near O’Hare Airport.
However, the intersection of Landmeier and Higgins Road has seen increased police activity in recent years.
Extended-stay hotels in the O’Hare corridor often become focal points for domestic disputes involving out-of-town guests.
In nearby Cook County suburbs, “sharp-force” homicides involving domestic partners have trended upward since 2024.
This incident mirrors a 2023 case where a dispute at a suburban motel ended in a similar discovery.
Local advocates note that domestic violence calls in the Northwest suburbs often spike during the winter months.
Community members expressed shock at the violence occurring so close to high-traffic business districts.
The proximity of the hotel to major highways often complicates initial investigations.
Police rely heavily on hotel surveillance footage and witness accounts from early-morning commuters in this area.
This marks one of the most high-profile homicide investigations in Elk Grove Village this year.
