A 39-year-old Chicago man faces multiple felony counts after allegedly trying to carjack a vehicle with two young children inside before successfully stealing another car from a woman at a nearby carwash on Thursday afternoon.

Timothy Lee was taken into custody by Chicago Police and charged with felony vehicular hijacking, attempted vehicular hijacking, and unlawful vehicular invasion.
Sequence of Incidents in Bucktown
According to court documents and police reports, the spree began shortly before 4:15 p.m. in the 2300 block of North Lister Avenue in Chicago’s Bucktown neighborhood.

Investigators state Lee attempted to forcibly take a vehicle occupied by a woman and her two young children, aged 11 months and 4 years.
Radio scanner traffic recorded officers responding to an initial emergency call regarding a reported child kidnapping attempt near Damen and Fullerton avenues.

“Attempted kidnapping of a child. 2400 North Damen; Damen and Fullerton. The child is safe and OK, but the offender, who was in a white box truck, then fled,” a voice on the police radio reported.

Carwash Hijacking on Fullerton Avenue
Following the failed attempt on Lister Avenue, police reported the suspect fled the scene in a white van and arrived at a carwash in the 2100 block of West Fullerton Avenue.
While at the carwash, Lee allegedly targeted a woman who was vacuuming the backseat of her vehicle.

“I guess he jumped in the front seat while she was vacuuming the backseat,” an officer noted over radio dispatch.
Lee was arrested shortly after the second incident and was scheduled for an initial court hearing on Saturday at the Leighton Criminal Courthouse (2600 S. California Ave.).
