A man has been arrested and charged after a 14-year-old girl was allegedly kidnapped and sexually abused last week while on her way to school in Evanston.
The Incident
Evanston police reported the incident began when the teen, a student at Evanston Township High School, missed her bus. While heading to school, she was approached by a man.
Police say the suspect, later identified as Artrez Drane, lured the girl into his vehicle. He then reportedly coerced her into inappropriate touching by implying he was armed with a knife.
The victim was eventually dropped off at the school, where she immediately reported the assault to authorities.
The Arrest and Investigation
Following an investigation, Evanston police identified and arrested Artrez Drane. He is now being held on charges related to the kidnapping and sexual abuse of the minor.
In a concerning development, police officials have stated they believe this may not be an isolated incident, suggesting there could be other victims.
