Chicago police have arrested a man in connection with a violent stabbing that occurred late last year.
Octavio Garcia, 48, now faces several felony charges including first-degree attempted murder.
The arrest follows a months-long investigation into a brutal attack in the Little Village neighborhood.
On November 27, 2025, a 41-year-old man was stabbed in the 2800 block of South Kedvale Avenue.
The victim suffered serious injuries during the encounter, according to police reports.
Members of the Chicago Police Department teamed up with the U.S. Marshals Great Lakes Regional Fugitive Task Force to locate the suspect.
Authorities finally tracked Garcia down on February 2, 2026.
Officers took him into custody in the 2600 block of South Komensky Avenue.
This location is just blocks away from where the original crime took place.
Garcia is also charged with two counts of aggravated battery involving a deadly weapon and great bodily harm.
He is scheduled for a detention hearing today, February 4, 2026, at the courthouse on South California Avenue.
Violence in the 10th District
The 10th District, which encompasses Little Village, has seen a fluctuating rate of violent crime over the past year.
The 2800 block of South Kedvale is a residential area where neighbors often express concerns about street safety.
In recent months, community leaders have called for a higher police presence to deter knife-related incidents and robberies.
This arrest marks a significant win for local law enforcement and the U.S. Marshals.
Fugitive task forces have become more active in the area to clear a backlog of violent crime warrants.
Residents hope this arrest brings a sense of closure to the victim and the surrounding block.
