Nigerian singer Oludipe Oluwasanmi David, widely known by his stage name Spyro, has come out strongly to debunk claims that he blamed music stars Davido and Mayorkun for a dip in his music career after their 2018 collaboration.
Spyro, who teamed up with the 30BG boss and his signee Mayorkun on the remix of his hit single Funke, was recently quoted by several blogs as saying the feature led to a setback in his career instead of boosting it. The alleged statement was said to have come from an interview with Hip TV, where he supposedly expressed regret over the collaboration despite the initial success of the song.
One of the major platforms that ran the story was the popular blog with the X (formerly Twitter) handle @Naija_PR. They shared photos of Spyro and Davido alongside a controversial caption that read: “My career experienced a setback after I featured Davido and Mayorkun – Spyro.”
This quickly drew the ire of fans, especially Davido’s loyal fanbase, who accused Spyro of being ungrateful and attempting to tarnish Davido’s image.
But Spyro wasted no time in addressing the rumor, categorically denying ever making such a statement. Taking to his Instagram Stories, the ‘Who’s Your Guy’ crooner called out the blog and demanded an immediate retraction.
“This is false!!! I never said anything like this. I give you 24 hours to take this down or be prepared to face the consequences,” he warned, adding that the post was misleading and malicious.
Spyro’s response has since sparked conversations online, with fans urging bloggers to verify stories before publishing and others praising him for standing up for his truth. Whether or not the blog will issue a retraction remains to be seen.
