The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) has revealed plans to begin the second phase of repair work on the Ogudu-Ifako Bridge in Kosofe Local Government Area. The project starts on Tuesday, August 19, and is expected to last until October 1, 2025. This phase will focus on fixing the bridge’s expansion joints for vehicles heading toward Lagos Island.

According to a statement from LASTMA’s Director of Public Affairs and Enlightenment, Adebayo Taofiq, the repairs are part of the state’s efforts to improve road infrastructure for safer and smoother travel. General Manager Olalekan Bakare-Oki explained that the work will result in some traffic changes to ensure everyone’s safety.

Key Traffic Diversions and Alternatives

Drivers coming from the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway or the Toll Gate will face a single-lane setup about 50 meters before the work zone. Full access will return 50 meters after the site. This is to minimize disruptions during the repairs.

For those heading to Oshodi, Bakare-Oki suggested using the Ojota Slip Road to connect to Ikorodu Road near the Taxi Park in Anthony.

If you’re bound for Victoria Island, there are two main options:

  • Take the Ojota Slip Road to Anthony, then go through Gbagada to the Third Mainland Bridge.
  • Use Ikorodu Road to Funsho Williams Avenue, then link up with Eko Bridge.

Motorists from Ikeja and nearby areas can go through Maryland to Ikorodu Road/Funsho Williams Avenue, then proceed via Eko Bridge to Outer Marina and surrounding roads. Another choice is to connect to Ikorodu Road toward Anthony (by the Taxi Park), then head to Oshodi and beyond.

LASTMA has deployed officers to manage traffic, enforce rules, and handle any emergencies. They’ve also placed mini and heavy-duty tow trucks along diversion routes and key spots to quickly deal with breakdowns or accidents.

Safety Reminders and Support

Bakare-Oki urged drivers to be patient and follow traffic laws during this time. “This partial closure is an important step in our plan to build better roads for all Lagosians,” he said. He warned that anyone caught driving against traffic or breaking other rules will face prosecution in the Lagos State Mobile Court.

The agency praised motorists for their cooperation during the first phase of the project. For any incidents or emergencies, drivers can call LASTMA’s hotline at 080000527862.

This repair work highlights Lagos State’s commitment to maintaining its busy bridges and roads, which handle millions of vehicles daily. Stay updated on BestLagos.ng for more traffic news and tips to navigate the city smoothly.
