The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) has confirmed two separate road accidents in Lagos over the weekend, which left two people with serious injuries and three others rescued.
The incidents occurred at the Olohunsogo Bus Stop in Mile 2 and the Stadium Hotel area in Surulere.
At the Mile 2 accident, a Toyota Camry collided with a stationary Scania truck.
The LASTMA team quickly arrived and rescued the Camry’s driver and a passenger, both of whom were severely injured. They were taken to Ademola Hospital for immediate medical care.
Preliminary investigations suggest the crash was caused by the Camry driver’s excessive speed, which led to a loss of vehicle control.
The truck driver was arrested, and the vehicles were promptly removed to clear traffic.
In a second incident at Stadium Hotel, Ojuelegba, a commercial bus crashed into a median in the BRT lane after the driver reportedly lost control.
LASTMA operatives rescued the unconscious driver and two passengers, who were all taken to a nearby medical facility.
A survivor, Mrs. Aina Kadri, said the bus’s brakes failed while it was speeding. Fortunately, all three survived the crash.
The General Manager of LASTMA, Mr. Olalekan Bakare-Oki, commended his officers for their quick response. He urged motorists to obey speed limits and ensure their vehicles are well-maintained to prevent future tragedies.
