The Lagos State Police Command has strongly refuted a recent report claiming that senior police officers were ordered to pay N6,000 each as “2025 POWA dues” to the Police Officers’ Wives Association (POWA) under the leadership of the Inspector General of Police’s wife.
The Command labeled the report as false and malicious, urging the public to disregard it.
The Police Officers’ Wives Association (POWA) is a non-governmental organization dedicated to improving the welfare of police officers’ wives and their families.
According to the Command, POWA dues are voluntary contributions made only by senior officers, starting from the rank of Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) and above, including the Commissioner of Police.
These dues are paid into a POWA account in Lagos State and are used solely for the benefit of members within the state, not directed to the POWA President or her office in Abuja.
The Command clarified that POWA supports the welfare of police wives, their children, and the families of deceased officers who died in active service.
The funds come from voluntary contributions and donations by police officers across Nigeria, not from mandatory payments as alleged.
CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, the Police Public Relations Officer, described the report as a “figment of imagination” by an “uneducated writer” and called on the media to avoid spreading misinformation.
The Command emphasized its commitment to transparency and urged the public to dismiss the claims as baseless.
