The Lagos State Police Command has arrested and detained Habeeb Hamzat, 20, also known as ‘PELLER’, following a widely shared video on Sunday, December 14, 2025.
The viral footage showed Hamzat driving recklessly in a manner that caused a dangerous road crash and a serious motor accident.
The incident was being live-streamed, an action the police say constituted a deliberate attempt to commit suicide and endangered the lives of other road users.
Police Launch Investigation
The case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for a full investigation.
The Police Command stated that once the investigation is complete, the findings will be made public, and the suspect will be charged in a competent court of law in line with legal provisions.
CP Warns Against Dangerous Stunts
The Commissioner of Police, Lagos State, CP Olohundare Jimoh, issued a strong warning to social media influencers, content creators, and the public.
He urged them to stop using social media to promote or engage in reckless, dangerous, unlawful, or criminal acts.
“Such lawlessness will not be tolerated, and the full weight of the law will be applied to any offender,” CP Jimoh warned.
The Command emphasized its commitment to public peace and safety, urging all road users to strictly comply with traffic regulations. The warning is specifically aimed at curbing conduct that could cause an untimely death or breach the peace within the state.
