Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) swiftly responded to a deadly accident at Volkswagen, inward Mile 2, Lagos, on Monday morning.
A Toyota Highlander Jeep (APP 150 EY), driven at high speed, crashed into a stationary T4 commercial bus (KJA 328 XH) illegally parked to pick up passengers. The collision claimed the life of the jeep’s driver instantly.
LASTMA personnel quickly secured the scene, removed the driver’s body from the wreckage, and handed it over to Ojo Police Division operatives.
The police transported the deceased to C-Niger Mortuary, Abule Ado, for preservation. LASTMA officers also restored traffic flow along the congested corridor and towed the damaged vehicles to the Ojo Police Division for further investigation.
Mr. Olalekan Bakare-Oki, LASTMA’s General Manager, expressed deep condolences to the victim’s family, praying for strength to cope with their loss.
He condemned reckless driving and illegal roadside passenger pickups, urging commercial bus operators to use designated bus stops. Bakare-Oki also warned drivers against speeding and emphasized the need for vehicles, especially braking systems, to be in top condition before any journey.
“The Lagos State Government, through LASTMA, remains committed to enforcing road safety and educating the public to prevent such tragedies,” Bakare-Oki stated. He stressed that human lives must not be lost to recklessness on Lagos roads.
