Barrister Moyosore Ogunlewe, Chairman of Kosofe Local Government Area (LGA) in Lagos State, has voiced frustration over the low 180/400 JAMB cutoff mark achieved by students after the LGA’s free JAMB and GCE programs, which have supported 800 UTME candidates yearly since 2022.
Speaking on May 5, 2025, Ogunlewe criticized the poor performance despite extensive efforts to provide free registration, screening, and tailored tutorials for fast and catch-up learners.
“I joined a WhatsApp group anonymously to send tutorial reminders, and the chats and stickers reveal how much parents need to step up,” Ogunlewe said.
He noted challenges in getting feedback, adding, “It’s free, but it shouldn’t be wasted. A 180/400 cutoff is unacceptable, this was never our standard.”
The chairman urged parents to work together to ensure students value the program and aim higher.
