The Lagos State Police Command has restricted all activities during the Egungun Masquerade Festival to only approved outing points and celebration venues. This move aims to keep everyone safe and prevent any trouble.
The police say no public marches or street processions are allowed. This helps protect people’s lives and property. It also makes sure that followers of other religions are not disturbed or harmed during the festival.
The decision comes after recent clashes between different Egungun groups. By limiting events to set locations, the police hope to avoid more conflicts and maintain peace.
CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, the Police Public Relations Officer, shared this update on behalf of the Commissioner of Police in Ikeja. The announcement was made on August 31, 2025.
Residents are urged to follow these rules for a smooth festival season.
