Lagos State Governor, Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, has announced Wednesday, August 20, 2025, as a public holiday for civil servants to mark this year’s Isese Day.
The decision, outlined in a circular issued by the Head of Service, Mr. Bode Agoro, on Monday, August 18, 2025, reflects the state’s commitment to preserving Yoruba culture, spirituality, and indigenous traditions.
The circular, addressed to top government officials across ministries, agencies, local councils, and parastatals, emphasizes the government’s dedication to promoting cultural heritage.
“In reaffirming the commitment of the State Government towards promoting our indigenous culture, tradition and preserving our heritage, while providing necessary support for traditional institutions in the State, Mr. Governor has declared Wednesday, 20th August, 2025 as a Work-Free Day,” the statement read.
Isese Day celebrates the rich Yoruba traditions and has gained official recognition in Lagos in recent years to foster inclusivity and cultural pride.
Public servants are expected to resume work on Thursday, August 21, 2025, at 8:00 a.m., as directed by the circular. Accounting officers have been urged to ensure widespread awareness of this announcement across all government offices.
This move underscores Lagos State’s ongoing efforts to honor and sustain its cultural legacy while encouraging unity and appreciation of its diverse heritage.
