A serious accident involving multiple vehicles took place on the Third Mainland Bridge in Lagos this evening, Sunday, around 7:00 PM. The busy bridge, a key route connecting the mainland to the island, saw traffic come to a standstill as emergency teams rushed to the scene.
The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) reported that the crash involved a Toyota Sienna, a truck, and a Honda Pilot. It happened near the UNILAG Waterfront heading toward Adekunle, blocking two lanes of the bridge.
LASTMA said the traffic jam has stretched back to the UNILAG Waterfront area, causing delays for drivers. Teams are working hard to remove the vehicles and clear the road, but it’s taking time.
Details about what caused the accident or if anyone was hurt are still unclear. Eyewitnesses said they saw damaged cars and a crowd forming nearby as emergency responders stepped in.
This isn’t the first trouble on the Third Mainland Bridge. Just last week, a woman jumped into the lagoon from the same bridge, and late last year, another crash left one person dead and others injured. Tonight’s accident has people talking again about safety on this important road.
