Manchester City star Erling Haaland has opened up on the reasons behind Manchester City’s poor form in the 2024-25 Premier League season.
Guardiola’s men have struggled to mount a credible defence of the Premier League title they won last season and crashed out of the Champions League playoff stages.
Man City won an historic treble in 2023, and they also won a record fourth consecutive Premier League title in 2024 before struggling in the early part of the current season.
Haaland believes lack of hunger is the sole reason behind the club’s poor performances this season.
He said: “Of course, you can find excuses, injuries, many injuries at bad times, but in the end we haven’t been performing well enough.
“We haven’t had fully the hunger inside of us. I haven’t been good enough. I haven’t helped the team enough. In the end, we haven’t been good enough.”
The Norwegian forward has been out injured for a month and he has returned just in time for Man City’s busy run-in to qualify for the Champions League and a place in the FA final.
He said: “It was horrible to be injured, but what can you do? You have to recover as quickly as you can and to come back as fit as you can. Now I’m back with loads of energy.
“I’m feeling good and moving good and I’m ready.”
Haaland has scored 30 goals in 40 appearances in all appearances for Manchester City this season and he will be hoping to lead the club to another trophy when they take on Crystal Palace in the final of the FA Cup on May 17.
