Nigerian music star Kizz Daniel may be on the verge of landing his first Grammy nomination, thanks to his latest collaboration with Grammy legend Angelique Kidjo on the song ‘Police’. The upbeat, romantic, and humor-laced track has sparked serious Grammy conversations since its release, with fans and critics touting it as a strong contender for Best African Music Performance at the upcoming 67th Grammy Awards.

Produced by Ghana’s MOG Beatz, Blaise Beatz, and Nigeria’s own Johnny Drille, who also lends his signature velvet vocals to the track, ‘Police’ brings together some of the most refined artistry on the continent. The song tells a love story of a man so smitten by his partner’s charm that he jokingly calls the police on her. With witty lyrics, a smooth blend of Afrobeats and soulful rhythm, and a pan-African sound, ‘Police’ checks every box for global appeal.

Angelique Kidjo’s presence on the track elevates its Grammy buzz. The Beninese superstar is no stranger to the Recording Academy, boasting five Grammy wins, making her one of Africa’s most awarded artists in Grammy history, tied only with South Africa’s Ladysmith Black Mambazo. Her collaborations have previously earned nominations and wins for Nigerian acts like Burna Boy, whose 2020 Grammy-winning album ‘Twice As Tall’ featured Kidjo’s vocal and cultural influence.

A nomination for ‘Police’ would mark a first for both Kizz Daniel and Johnny Drille, a major milestone for two of Nigeria’s most beloved artists. For fans who have long believed Kizz Daniel is Grammy-worthy, this could be the song that finally brings the golden gramophone home.

With its blend of romance, humor, and world-class production, ‘Police’ may just be the anthem that arrests the Grammys, especially with Angelique Kidjo on it.
