Nigerian singer, Michael Adebayo Olayinka, popularly known as Ruger, has expressed deep concern over the rising wave of kidnappings across the country, describing it as a “full-time business” for criminal elements.
The Asiwaju hitmaker, known for his bold social commentary, took to his X handle on Wednesday to voice his fears about the safety of Nigerians, particularly as the festive season approaches, a period when many citizens and diaspora return home for holidays and family reunions.
Ruger warned that if urgent action is not taken by the authorities, the situation could escalate further in December, turning joyful celebrations into moments of fear and anxiety.
He wrote:
“I’m scared for people this December. Kidnapping has become a full-time business in some parts of Nigeria and it’s only going to get worse this festive season. People will travel back to their villages from abroad and from many other places in Nigeria. These bastards will strike hard.”
His statement comes amid widespread concern over the growing spate of abductions and banditry in several parts of the country, with many citizens calling on the government and security agencies to intensify efforts to secure lives and property.
Ruger’s outcry adds to the voices of several entertainers and public figures who have recently spoken about the deteriorating security situation, urging authorities to act swiftly before the festive rush begins.
The singer, who recently wrapped up his world tour, is known not only for his chart-topping hits but also for using his platform to speak on social issues affecting ordinary Nigerians.
