The shocking death of Arise TV anchor, reporter, and producer Somtochukwu Christelle Maduagwu has continued to stir grief and outrage across Nigeria, as new details emerge from those who witnessed the horrific robbery in Abuja’s Katampe area.
One resident, Sani Yusuf, who lives in the same block where the tragedy unfolded, revealed that he was the first victim of the armed assailants. Yusuf shared his ordeal in a post on X, painting a grim picture of the moments before the attackers turned their violence on Maduagwu.
“This happened at the block I live in. I was the first victim to be attacked. Right in the heart of Abuja, man. I don’t wish anyone the things I witnessed. When I’m ready, I’ll share details. For now, may the souls of the departed find peace,” Yusuf wrote.
The attack, which occurred in the early hours of September 29, 2025, left the 29-year-old broadcaster dead, sparking an outpouring of tributes from colleagues, friends, and viewers who described her as a rising star in Nigerian journalism.
The Nigeria Police Force has since launched an investigation into the robbery, with assurances that those responsible will be brought to justice. Authorities have also pledged to tighten security measures in Katampe and its surrounding neighborhoods to prevent further tragedies.
Maduagwu, who was also a trained lawyer, has been mourned by the media industry as a brilliant professional and a supportive colleague whose career was cut short in its prime.
Her passing has reignited conversations about the state of insecurity in the nation’s capital, with many demanding swift action to ensure that her killers are tracked down and prosecuted without delay.
