An 18-year-old Joliet man is behind bars after allegedly robbing a local auto parts store by claiming he was armed.
The incident occurred on Monday afternoon around 3:00 p.m. at the O’Reilly Auto Parts located at 312 Collins Street.
According to Joliet Police, a man entered the store and was approached by an employee offering help.
The suspect, identified as Jalen Davis, allegedly told the worker he had a gun.
To intimidate the employee, Davis lifted his pant leg, not to show a weapon, but to reveal an ankle monitor. No firearm was actually seen during the encounter.
The employee backed away, and Davis reportedly walked out of the store with a stolen floor jack.
Detectives quickly identified Davis and located him at his home in the 900 block of Campbell Street.
Tactical officers took him into custody roughly four hours after the robbery.
During police questioning, Davis admitted to his involvement in the crime. He has been charged with aggravated robbery and is currently being held at the Will County Adult Detention Facility.
