WESTMONT, IL – A Joliet man will remain behind bars as he awaits trial for allegedly posting a YouTube video where he claimed to plant explosives at a Westmont car warehouse.
On Monday, Judge Anthony Coco granted the State’s request to keep 32-year-old Devan Sheard in custody.
Sheard is charged with one felony count of Disorderly Conduct – False Bomb Threat.
The investigation began on the afternoon of December 28, 2025.
Westmont police were alerted to a YouTube video allegedly filmed by Sheard, a former employee of the Napleton Porsche warehouse on Burr Oak Drive.
In the video, prosecutors say Sheard is seen walking among cars with their hoods open, asking, “Should I hide the IED over here?”
Later in the recording, Sheard allegedly sets the camera down and tells viewers, “I’m planting the IED as we speak.”
He ended the video by claiming he wanted to “go out with a bang,” according to authorities.
No Explosives Found
The threat triggered a massive response from the Westmont and DuPage County Sheriff’s Bomb Squads.
Officers searched both the warehouse and Sheard’s home in Joliet but found no bombs or bomb-making materials.
DuPage County State’s Attorney Robert Berlin criticized the incident as a massive waste of public resources.
“The charges filed against Mr. Sheard send the message that in DuPage County, we will not tolerate abuses to the criminal justice system,” Berlin said in a statement.
Sheard is currently being held in pre-trial detention.
His next court date is set for January 26, 2026.
